I received an e mail this morning from Michelle, Toni's daughter... Please remember this is the "other" Toni; not our toni here." to everyone, this is Michelle, Toni's daughter, I tried to send out an email a few weeks back and I never felt like it successfully got out to everyone. Mom has been in the hospital since March 13th, she was expecting an outpatient surgery on March 16th to remove some sort of a mass from her left ovary, she had an appointment with her primary care doctor on the 13th and he sent her right over to the hospital to be admitted, he wanted her to get a little stronger and have some IV antibiotics before her surgery Monday. Turns out the mass on her ovary ended up being a large walled off infection on her colon (diverticulitis). They kept her on the antibiotics and added more antibiotics, and transferred her into the general campus instead of the "Women's Hospital," a couple days later she went to the ICU for sepsis and pneumonia, and on Friday the 21st she was put on a ventilator for 7 days and then on to a regular room for another week in a half or two. On Wednesday, April 8th she was transferred to a rehab unit at a nursing home and was working well with therapy until about the following Tuesday as she got very weak and fevered and low blood pressure on Thursday the 16th of April was readmitted to the ICU. Right now we don't know exactly what is wrong or if mom will or will not get better, she is actually voicing that she is tired of all of this and just wants to go home, I'm afraid that even if the doctors can fix what's wrong with her that she will still not find the strength within herself to get better. She is scheduled for some test tomorrow and I hope we will find some answers. I will try to keep you all informed of what's going on." ......."Dad is having a hard time keeping up with just all of the things that he has to do at the hospital, insurance calls, etc. He gets home after 10 pm most nights when he doesn't end up spending the whole night with her because she is so restless" Thank You, Michelle

Toni My thoughts go out to you and your family at such a trying time. It is hard on family having to watch a loved one go through so much. Please remember that although we try to do all and be all at all times for our ill family members, you and your father need to make sure you take care of yourselves also. Please take care and keep us posted.

I received this in this morning's mail
On Tuesday evening they did a sigmoid colonoscopy on mom and confirmed that she has colitis and C-Diff, They are going to rest her colon by not giving her any food (she wasn't eating but a bite or two each meal anyway) or drink.
They were going to start TPN (it is nutrition thru her veins) this evening. The infectious disease doctor was going to start an additional medication (immunoglobulin-used off label to help heal the c-diff) and keep her on the vancomycin and flagyl. The gastroenterologist says that if she doesn't start improving in a few days that we will have to start thinking about another surgery and all the doctors agree that mom may not make it thru a surgery in her current weakened state.
She is talking pretty clear and making sense most of the time right now. Occasionally she will say something totally off the wall, we think this is because she hears the nurses and other visitors talking about things and she takes it and turns it into something about her life and family.
I came back to Joliet today and will start back to Evansville as soon as I'm off work Friday. Thank You for all your thoughts and Prayers, Michelle
