I got this e mail this morning..... it's not sounding the greatest... " to all, yesterday they did about five xrays, put an NG tube thru mom's nose to her stomach, took urine for testing, diagnosed her with pneumonia again. They had a surgeon consult for a bowel resection, he said that he really didn't see that it would help her. We got to to talk to her primary care doctor for a good while around lunch time today, he explained to us that the surgery only had about 10% chance of success with the amount of damage her intestines have. And then even if they did get the intestines fixed that she was needing to be on a vent again for the surgery and that she probably would have more trouble getting weaned off this time. She has white blood cell count of like 29 today it was like 23 yesterday, the infecction inside is getting worse, if they cut part of her small intestines out (which would be neccesary to get out the bad parts) than she would bee looking at having trouble getting nourished because your small intestines is where your body absorbs nutrients from food. Just grim problem after grim problem. And prolonging the inevitable is all a surgery would do. Today has been a really hard day for me and dad, This afternoon we signed up for Hospice and this evening mom has been moved into a hospice unit still in the hospital. The doctor never said weeks while he explained this process to us, he only talked about days. Thank You to everyone for caring so much about my mom. Chelly "
