Your home environment is your first defence against flare ups of asthma and COPD
Otago University researchers found that children living in draughty homes, heated by pollution-spewing sources such as open fires and unflued gas heaters, faced "significantly" higher health risks. This included more frequent episodes of coughing and wheezing, days off school, visits to the doctor and hospital.
Both the Public Health Association (PHA) and the Asthma and Respiratory Foundation say the findings support the need for swift Government action on housing standards and rules for landlords.
New Zealand has the highest rate of asthma per capita in the world, followed by Britain.

Larry....why is that? " New Zealand has the highest rate of asthma per capita in the world, followed by Britain"
Is it a commonality that the 2 countries have? I can think of several other nations that I would think meght be worse. I'm surprised.

I suspect but do not know that the medical systems, which are more or less the same is to blame. No not that it causes it, the problem I see is the readiness to use the label 'Asthma', long ago I was told I had asthma, it was copd. So many kids are told they have asthma when what they need is less food and play station, that is one example For doctors labels are easy.
