I’m posting this on ALL the COPD forums for 2 reasons…
1) I’m HOPING for a good explanation from someone who knows more than I and from someone who’s been using a certain med for awhile and/or 2) Something to be aware of since many of us use this product
I’ve been using Tiova 18 mcg tiotropium (ADC supplied Spiriva); which is made or supplied by Cipla…a widely accepted pharma company in many countries…including our own. That’s not the problem.
The dosage is. If you cut open Spiriva and empty the contents, and do the same thing with Tiova….the difference is SUBSTANTIAL.
Please tell me there’s a good explanation. I’ve just spent the better part of 2 hours checking on all of the info i.e. dosage/amounts/cross referencing. Could be me.
I’m not “knocking” the products per se….we get several meds from ADC (BP and cholesterol) and there’s no problem. However; I would be remiss if I didn’t bring it up (plus I’m a tad bit concerned).
I sure could use your insight or knowledge on this one. BTW; for those of you using this med; don’t be panicy or anything like that. If in fact the dosage is higher than you thought, it appears there’s no real “adverse” effects from what I’ve read.

I think 18 micrograms is almost too small an amount to see without a microscope. The powder in the capsules would be mostly an inert "carrier" with the drug mixed in witih it. It would be possible to provide the same amount of drug with a different amount of carrier, so I would not worry about this. Dave

I'll tell you what....if the biggest amount is the excipient (and I realize it's an inactive carrier); we're talking a CONSIDERABLE amount in comparison.
Thanks Dave. I appreciate your quick response.

I would agree with Dave, the 18mcg would be without filler (carrier)

There's just something "unnatural" about breathing in this amount of "carrier". I'm sure it dissolves etc but it's a LOT.
