Hi all ; I was thinking of rattling some doors of our elected officials in regards as to how the funds ($$$ & they are in the Millions$$$$ )being received from the lawsuits against the cigg co.s are being spent. I believe they got the $ under the pretense that they were to be used to off set funds spent by the states for the actual treatments & to do research in the sicknesses caused by smoking cancer copd ext. I know for a fact that in my state of Ma. the funds go into the general funds and or used for everything but what they were intended for. It's been said that if it weren't for the tobacco monies the big dig would not have gotten done Also really if the Government thinks smoking is as bad as they said it was when they were suing . Why hasn't there been a total ban on the sale of tobacco products. Are tax $'s more important than lives ? Bear , Blossom , Larry nz , What say you? Would this be a good endeavor for my self to champion ? Any idea's & suggestions as how to get around closed doors would be appreciated

Unfortunately use of tobacco products as well as alcohol is still legal. I don't think they will ever be banned, because most of the population don't' want a "nanny Government" dictating every single aspect of our lives. Remember Prohibition? That didn't work either and never will.

In our state of Nevada the Governor at the time of the lawsuit being settled and the money coming into the state, Kenny Guinn, set up what he called the millennium fund which is a scholarship fund of $4000 for every highschool graduate that attended high school in the state of Nevada the last two years of highschool and graduated, to attend college. According to recent news reports in the Review Journal, our newspaper, the fund is about to run out. What that had to do with smoking and cigarettes is beyond me but thats what they did with the money.

We have one party in NZ that says it would ban tobacco if elected (they know that will not happen). We have very heavy taxes on tobacco, the politicians love this money.

Hi John; We are in the same boat (sinking) our elected officials are not listening and all we can do to make them listen is to keep hammering on the door. Good luck. Barry.

Thanks Bear all I get is the standard "got your message" generic reply! Sometimes I wonder who works for who! I once had an attorney tell me that " He" was the lawyer And I was the client" I replyed that I was the one who was paying him !He said your right case closed!
