I carried this over from another mailing by Edna/CO
"The following was written today by Louise Nett:
It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that Tom died early this morning here at home with me holding his hand. Jim Good, his long time friend and personal physician, was with us. Tom had been struggling with so many health issues the past years he just had no reserve left to fight any longer. As painful as his death is to me, I find acceptance in knowing that he no longer has to battle the daily pain and suffering. He has gone where we must all go one day. The book he is working on will be completed by Kay his secretary, Bob McCoy, and I will also help with it.
His personal wishes were for a simple and small service, which will be held soon.
Kay (Dr. Petty's Secretary)"
I don't need to tell you who this man was for he was a living legend in the Pulmonary field. To list all of his accomplishments, not to mention the 45 or so books he's authored; well; there simply wouldn't be enough room! We have all lost something in his passing. And for those on oxygen; I copied this from Portable Oxygen.org..
"After oxygen patients won the right to use oxygen in their homes, the battle started to permit users pulmonary rehab and ambulatory oxygen. The leading advocate was Dr. Tom Petty. If oxygen patients ever had a proponent for them, it was Dr. Petty. If you use portable oxygen, your have Dr. Petty to thank for it."
We owe a great deal to his tireless work and commitment.....and personally speaking I had a great deal of respect and admiration for him as I'm sure most of you did too.
Breathe Easy Dr. Tom

A great man who pioneered our way. My life has been made easier in so many ways as a result of the paths he laid for us.
