Well, what a finish! As good as everyone expected? It was for me. Quite a few twists and turns in this read.
Many had thoughts about who killed who, and who was dating or having an affair with whom. Were your guesses right? How about disappointments.. would there be something in the end you would like to have seen happen?
I, myself, would like to have more of Jack's thoughts about Alex and how he felt about his mom when all the craziness was going on. Just a little something extra from one of the characters...that essentially is the main reason that Liza got together with Alex to begin with. You know, worrying about who would care for Jack if something happened to her after her accident.
MacKingsley certainly lived up to my expectations. And that he wound up to be Liza's husband in the long run, does not surprise me. I knew I liked that guy. Benjamin Fletcher admitted what I thought. Good defense but didn't really believe in his client; but unfortunately that is like real life. I am just glad that he did stick by her in the end.
The garage incident really took me by surprise. Not so much the garage, but the drink. Alex had to know that the chemicals would be traced. Or maybe he just hoped that no one would even bother with chemical/tox screens on a disturbed woman. That he may have done other deeds as similiar as this one, however, did surprise me. I thought that quite possibly Celia would be the his only monstrous deed.
Well now, that Robin sure turned out to be more evil than what I expected.
I can't say I would have stayed in that house. But, everyone is different in how they cope and handle things.
So, folks, grab something warm to drink and let us get to hearing what you thought of this book.
Would you recommend it to anyone? If you haven't read this author before, would you consider reading another of her books? What was your favorite part of the book?
Have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aero; I must take you you've been doing an excellent job. Especially with your overviews/synopsis and the like. And you said you've never done this before? Huh! It pretty much went the way I was suspecting... including Robin. I hadn't considered Alex having perhaps "killed" before and the garage scene was a surprise; matter of fact.... so was the ending with the marriage of Lizzie to the DA. I really did think though that the newspaper reporter (Dru?) would play a bigger role and would befriend Celeia. All in all, a good read

Areo, It was a great book, and I will be reading more of this author. The twists and turns were wonderful, I didn't see her marrying the DA, and like Jackie I was a bit disapointed with Dru, but she did take the info to the DA so... the ending in the garage was not a surprise afterall he had to try to 'fix' things to go his way, but Robyn was a surprise. I liked the fact that her lawyer was honest with her about his feelings, he really didn't have to be. This book was a nail bitter for sure and would and have recomended it to others. Have just finished another one by her 'the santa cruise' it to is a good read.

I don't think any of us trusted Alex to begin with, but I didn't expect him to attempt murder. I always thought his goal was to prove her to be insane and have her committed. I guess suicide would be the ultimate in committed. I, too, was surprised that Alex had such a poor past.
Who was in the photo that Georgette saw? I finished the book in the middle of the night and don't remember if the author told us.
When she introduced Jeff in the beginning as being a young boy when Celia's mother was killed, because of his sympathy for Celia and his age (they were only 2 years apart, I think) I got a feeling that the two would end up together. Throughout the investigation and right up to the end, it just convinced me this would happen. And I'm glad as he is a strong and decent man who will be a huge help not only with Celia, but with Jack who has lost so much in his short life.
I agree with aero, it would have been nice to know more of Jack's thoughts. I wonder if he ever picked up some bad vibes from Alex. Kids are pretty good judges of character. But then Alex was pretty slick what with buying the kid's affection with a pony. That would probably have erased any of Jack's qualms about him.
Glad Celia's stepfather got his.
I'll probably be back with more. Need to go lay my back down and let my meds. kick in.

Mary Higgins Clark has written many books. I have read many and she was very popular a while back. Seem she is like fashion, back in style again.
I just recommended this book to my sister and we are getting together to swap some of our books in the near future.
I think maybe we are ready for some more readings? So, let's start gathering some ideas on titles and/or authors and then, just as before, we can start to narrow down.
