I came across this on YouTube and posted on Efforts. Rosemarie suggested I repost here. "Not the most professional video I have seen, but the guy is out there on his own and trying to help us in a different new medium. Got to take your hat off to him! All the other you-tube videos I have seen on COPD have been professionally done and sponsored. Chris Wigley Efforts Ambassador in B.C. Canada cwigley@shaw.ca"

I think he did a pretty darn good job Chris. Sometimes the "unprofessional" "less polished" has more impact. You can relate to the average guy better IMO.

Chris,
I truely thank you for posting this. For me it was the common man talking to the common man. With the o2 on SOB and all. To me that would help more people than all the fancy things. I applaude him and even for someone like me or you that new what he was talking about it broke it down and showed us the real COPD. So many that do these video have COPD but they appear to be the mild cases. I give Mr. Riser a A+. And send Hugs your way Chris for always helping me and the millions of others.

.
I seen the guy's video, heard his explanations, heard his warnings but (sad to say) really didn't personally "feel" the effects that COPD had on him. And, if one continues to smoke, how COPD will negative impact the viewer as well. Perhaps I'm more into "action / event and negative outcome" examples. Perhaps a talking video isn't my thing? Not too sure. Yes. This guy is doing a great thing. I do support what his is trying to do. I just wish his video had more "action / shown negative outcome" examples. Like seeing him walk up set of stairs and how it would make him look like a fish gulping for air. Or, how he can't physically play outdoor sports with his kidss or grand kids anymore, or how he can't even walk around the block. Or, go for romantic walks in the park with his spouse. Or do other physical things - that give "extra zest in life" for others.
Last Nov, when I was emotionally gearing up to stop smoking, I seen lots of videos of how smoking negative impacted their lives. Even to this day, I still remember one video - as if it was yesterday. It was a middle age man (my age) who had throat cancer 3 different times. Eventually, they had to rip out his voice box and put an air tube into the bottom of his throat. Yet. This guy continued to smoke. To have drag off his cigarette, he simply removed the air tube (from his lower throat hole), held the cigarette up to his throat hole and took a deep drag. He then exhailed the large amount of smoke out his nose, mouth and the same throat hole. Yes. Very graphical video. If one smokes, they really need to see it. It will change their impression of smoking the rest of their life as well. When a craving comes my way today, I reflect back on that video and say, "nope - that is definately NOT going to be me". Been an ex-smoker ever since.
Perhaps the guy in the COPD video can show more "action / event and negative outcome" examples. Thus, driving many "home run hits" (sort of speaking) with his target audience. Average guy, showing average audience the "average things" that one will need to change in their life - when they are diagnosed with COPD. Therefore, quit smoking NOW - before its too late.
