this is still all I know and won't know more until later next week it looks like
Larry has had his gastroscopy procedure which did not show any abnormality which is good news, however he now has further 'Baruim Meal Test' on Tuesday which will keep him in hospital another few days. He is in the best place until we find the cause of his weight loss and discomfort

Ah, the old radioactive scrambled egg and toast meal. Without salt. Yulk. Been there, done that. I hope it's a simple diagnosis like mine. The nerves to my stomach quit working and I wasn't absorbing anything. Lost tons of weight quickly. I just had to take a pill before my meals and at bed time and all was well. So well that after a while I'd gained the weight back and then some.
I'm praying that it's that easy, and that he's feeling ok.

Pleased to say I am home again, thank you all for the good wishes. I had heaps of tests, in fact lost count, I think they had a slack week and used me to fill in time, they were very thorough, the diagnosis is not 100% but they are saying Motor Neuron Disease, with that in mind they have put a PEG in my tummy for feeding, An attempt to stop me losing any more weight. Funny thing is I only went to the GP for a prescription.

So glad you get to be home, Larry. Boy, that was a long visit for a simple prescription visit. I'm going to have to look up Motor Neuron Disease and PEG. Is the PEG like a feeding tube? My mom had to have one that went in through her skin by her stomach, but into her small intestine. Is this something that is temporary (the PEG)?
Anyway, I hope you pack those pounds on quickly and are back to normal weight.
Sue

Larry; it is sooooooooo good to hear you are at home and TY for your post letting us know! We were very concerned!
I'm with Sue; it was a loooooong visit for a prescription! I'm not familiar with that disease either so I'll be looking it up as well.

Welcome Home Larry, so glad to see you here again. Well if you only went for a script then he must have seen something he didn't like, sounds like you has a thorough going over. Don't know what motor neuron disease is but will look it up also, and I think the other is a feeding tube. At least you can now get some benifit from your food. Take Care and enjoy life.

How are you doing, Larry? I looked up motor neuron diseases and can see where this can be a scary diagnosis. I am hoping things are going well. Have you put on some of that weight you lost?

Ticking over OK, went to my GP yesterday. My doctors visit started badly, the GP called my name I responded got off the chair and fell flat on the floor. Skinned one elbow which they treated before I left, taped the flaps of skin down and as my tetanus shot was out of date had to have an injection.
Once settled in the doctors room he tells me the hospital diagnosis of motor neuron is still up in the air, it needs to be confirmed at the MND clinic, so could still be something else yet. (Not as bad I hope) He is trying to hurry up the appointment for me.
I go back to him in two weeks.
Thinking back for the last year my COPD has got worse (I thought), with the value of hindsight it may have been no such thing, every time I've mentioned a new symptom my GP has just said COPD, last year I was in hospital for a month, diagnosis exacerbation of COPD. My recent stay in hospital they put all those new symptoms together and called it Motor Neuron. I wonder how often we have a problem that gets blamed on COPD when it is no such thing.

Larry,
Wow that was one heck of a start to an appt. It really didn't start well, but your doc seems to be really interested in getting to the heart of the matter and pushing appointments hard.
That is a good question about just casually laying blame on COPD. Is it just laziness or being misinformed. Maybe your appt in two weeks could help with that question.
Keep going strong.
Thanks for keeping us informed and always a pleasure to see you post.

Well Larry we have much to thank you for ..... Today for sharing your information that will help many of us from resisting to being 'sluffed off' when COPD will be the assumed cause of some new condition we have. Problem is that someone has to be first, someone has to suffer the mistake to bring the new awareness to light. Seems to me you have already paid your 'suffering dues' On the lighter side while we over in the North are looking forward to Spring you had to face a Fall. Regards keep fighting.
