Emphysema sufferer to sue tobacco firms A 63-year-old Queensland man who contracted the lung disease emphysema after smoking three packs of cigarettes a day for almost 40 years has renewed his bid to sue three tobacco giants for more than $10 million. Father-of-five Bryan Mervyn Hartas, of Woodridge, south of Brisbane, was Wednesday granted in the Brisbane Supreme Court an extension of time in which to sue tobacco companies Phillip Morris (Australia) Limited, W.D & H.O Wills Holding Limited and Rothmans Holding Limited. I think he is on the right track and I hope he gets help with his legal bills. It would be a great idea for our provinces to sue these big tobacco companies for the health care costs associated with the addiction of tobacco and nicotine. I believe some of the States have already launched law suits. I have my doubts that this will happen in Canada our government is too dependant on the revenue generated by the sale of cigarettes. Besides they probably contribute to the political party and thus have a say in keeping us addicted.
