.
Just got back from my doctors a few moments ago. Needed to get some more High Blood Pressure Pills and perform a general 6 month "comparison" checkup. My doctor pulled up my 1 year historical records and started reading it off to me. From last July to Oct/Nov, I had almost weekly doctor visits. X-Rays, Nose Puffers, change of diet, lung pain, some dizzyness, etc. etc. Written between her lines was "stop smoking ASAP". With her professional advice and my final quit date on Dec 4th, 2006, I continued to live life. She then pulled my medical records from Dec to today and read off its high level contents. NO more puffers, NO more walking pnemonia, NO more (down to almost zero) daily lung pain and no more unexplained pains in the other parts of my body. Based on comparison & patterning, it was like comparing medical charts of a different person. Like WOW! I didn't realize my body was that "run down" last fall. My body really was like an old fighter plane - heading in a downward spin and ready to crash / burn into the trees. Talk about great reasons to keep on my clean enviroment (no-smoking) and semi-active physical life.
She did tell me that if I wanted to really throw away (sort of speaking) those high blood pressure bills, I need to drop 30 lbs, eat just a little bit better (same quality of foods but a little less volume) and do a litte more physical exercise. My doctor explained that 80% struggle was the "quit smoking part". The remaining 20% push to eliminate those BP pills will now be the easy part. The easy part to bring my body into the "normal BMI and physical health for my age group" goal.
Sorry to mumble on.... Just wanted to emphasis that if one is still smoking, please remember these words.... Quit Smoking "really does work". By comparing one's before and after test results, one will be amazed. I was...
Hope this helps others....

Kudos Spike!!!! You know though for someone as active as yourself (you're not a couch potato) for her to suggest you exercise more; you must have raised your eyebrow ) Bet you get more exercise than she does!!!

Way to go Spike. Kicking the isidious tobacco habit and ridding oureselves of the noxious weed is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. The damage to both our hearts and lungs is massive and I am living proof of that. What really bugs me is that the buggers (both the manufacturers and the government) are still hawking cigarettes. The manufacturers are putting more addictive additives into smokes and the government is collecting huge taxes on them.

. Thanks for everyone's positive feedback. Yes. It is nice to see one's health improve. Didn't realize that my "stop smoking" would yield such positive results. Staying semi-active does help with health improvements as well.
Some may think I'm physical active but known to some, "puttering" around the house fixing things really isn't physical exercise. Laying under a sink to change its plumbing goose-neck is like doing sit-ups at the gym. Going up/down a ladder to change electrical wiring is like the gym's step box. Cutting grass with a push mover is like legs back/forth on a ski machine at the local gym. Doing house / yard maintenance is semi-exercise things. Of all these things, the best workout I've done (and wish I did more often) is a game of 21 Baseket ball with my 12 year old son. Or, a zip game of baseball throwing with my son. Or, Peddle bike ride down the bike path with my wife. Or driveway hockey "slap shots" into the net with my other son. Doing these simple backyard sport events is much more active then "puttering around" the house.
If you can, do try to find "sports time" with your other family members as well. Finding something they like (even throwing a simple fris-bee around) is the best physical exercise one can obtain. To me, sports with a family member is much better then doing "the gym machines" by yourself.
Hope this helps others as well...
