Oh my! I am so happy for you! BTW, my niece's b'day is that day and it was one of the luckiest days in our family (it was Friday the 13th that year). She is an absolute treasure. Special things happen on that day. I know they will for you, too. I can't wait to hear how it all goes. I hope you will share your thoughts before you go in. I am interested in the op, too.

thank you all for your support, it really does help a whole bunch... I know wonderwoman wants all the details but not a lot left to say...the doc it a wonderful man and as soon as he walked into the room and we began talking to each other, I knew I liked him and he liked us too (my daughter, Char, was with me) he wanted to know what I knew about the surgery and I told him and he asked if I was ready for that and I said yep! and he said, let's book it! and that was that.....he also poked on my chest and ribs and declared I could have the thorascopic surgery, which is a big relief...he does both and would much rather have it done this way...just three holes on each side not the chest opened up...I almost did a jumping jack right there on the spot, instead I opted for a huge and loud yahoooooooo......then we talked sports, see a man after my own heart!

Wendy, I just read your last post. I didn't even realize there were two ways to do the LVRS, or I just forgot maybe. Seems maybe Penny did mention it. I am very happy to read the way you are getting it. After seeing Joe having his chest opened up, I wouldn't want that either. Of course, could be worth it to breath sometimes. I am just so thrilled for you.

You're right Zoom. Not a lot of details there! Again though, he must have had it all thought out and maybe even had a date in mind before you even got there! I like the idea of how he's gonna be doing it..... If you don't mind, I had a look see and I borrowed this from the Univ of Maryland re: the Thorascopic method for anyone who's interested. "Thoracoscopy (unilateral or bilateral) Thoracoscopy is a minimally invasive technique. Three small (approximately 1 inch) incisions are made in each side, between your ribs. A video-scope is placed through one of the incisions. This scope allows the surgeon to see your lungs. A stapler and grasper are inserted in the other incisions. These are used to cut away the most damaged areas of the lung. The stapler will reseal the remaining lung. Sutures that will eventually dissolve close the incisions. This technique can be used to operate on either one or both lungs and allows assesment and resection of any part of the lungs." The other 2 methods are Sternotomy (bilateral) and Thoracotomy (unilateral or one sided) Anyway; it'd good to hear that you got on well; makes a big difference think!

yep ww, that's the one.....thank heavens he said he could do it this way....so much easier on your body and recovery....I'm hesitate to say this but should, he said he could do it because I don't have a lot of fat in those areas....people with fat just won't let it work right.......I have fat but guess not too much also, I made it sound like he said hi and then scheduled, he went over all my test results with me, at least to the point of explaining what they look for in a good candidate and told me where I stood with each thing....so it was more detailed just didn't want to bore everyone with all that stuff I'm now working with my reg pulmo nurses to get me set up with a quick chat with my favorite pulmo here in town so she is in the loup......she said she would meet me during her rounds if that's what it takes....looks like it will be hehehehehehe I love that lady, she has kept me alive all this time and knew when to bring in the big guns....................

Thanks for looking up and posting that information, Jackie. If I ever get brave enough, and smart enough, I think I just might follow my drs' advice and look into having LVRS. And now that I read the explanation of this particular way of doing it, I am not as afraid.
I am glad you are able to have it done this way, Wendy. I just know in my heart that everything is going to go just right for you.
God bless, Sue

I know you have a lot of respect for that woman Zoom; and frankly, put them all together, it sounds like you've got one heck of a winning team! Yolu couldn't do any better I don't think.
You're welcome Sue.... sounds like the way to go doesn't it.... IF a person qualifies as Wendy was explaining re: the fat (or lack thereof) plus I'm sure there's a few other things.
