Subject: Update on Doug as of April 12th
Sorry it's a generic update tonite; but as I wait for a ph. call, thot I
would take the time to let some of you know where we are at.
One way or another you all know Doug is in hospital. He was placed in
palliative care Tues. April 6 late in the evening. Mercifully the Dr. got
enough meds into him to get his breathing under control enough that we did not
lose him at that time.
As of today, he has not opened his eyes, or responded to stimulus since
Friday April 9th. He awoke briefly and spoke, was out again in under 5 mins.
That was his 52nd birthday, so we were at least able to tell him it was his
b-day.
He is now on strictly comfort measures, with medication for pain and
sedation. If we keep his meds on an even keel he stays relaxed. His breathing
is labored and jagged even at the best of times. His O2 is dropping over the
last several days; on 5 I O2 flow, we are seeing sats between 74 and
81%.(when he was admitted Apr. 4th his CO2 was 98 %  ( ) today his 'output'
has been minimal. HOWEVER, having said that, his IV drip has been reduced to
75 ml/hr; and with the amount he is losing through perspiration, and
increasing edema, it's not really surprising he isn't 'outputting'.
At this point we are waiting for his release from the torment. The girls
(and guys) and his mom are all keeping round the clock vigil with me at the
hospital. (in shifts)
We do appreciate all the kind thots and prayers that have been sent our
way; they are more help than anyone could imagine.
Anyway, just wanted to let some of you know where we are at.

My prayers are with you both at this time, I hope he has an easy passing, and that the whole family/friends recieve the comfort and support they need.

your in my thoughts and prayers have they tried a cpap it helped me alot when my co2 was up to 80. i was out for days. they only gave me a 20% chance to live. Bobbi  |

I am very sorry that I have to I pass along the following: "Now with very heavy heart (for us) and relief (for Doug) I must tell you his struggle to breathe ended peacefully in his sleep at 12:30 am April 14,2010. He did not awaken; just slowly stopped breathing. His funeral will be Mon (19th) 2pm here in Rocky." Gloria |

I'm so very sorry to read this.
This is undoubtedly a sad and difficult time for Doug's family; my heart goes out to them. Doug has found his peace and earned his rest.
I hope Gloria and family can find some solace in knowing that he's no longer struggling.
