I found the item good but amiss in one area, the cabbage family create gas, as do most raw fruits and vegetables. For the general population this is not a problem, but most of us with COPD breathe using the diaphragm, so any gas in the tummy make it harder to breathe. this is the same reason we are advised to eat more small meals, keep the diaphragm for breathing.

Frankly I'm not sure about anything anymore re: food. I do think we're all different though I DO agree with you Larry with the cabbage family of foods. Raw veggies and fruits? No; at least not for me. Again I think it's like this disease; "individual" in some ways.
It's like why do we wake up some days, even before eating. and have more "inflation?"

Don't forget what Phil wrote about that bloated feeling www.copdcanada.ca/eating.htmApart from that - a sensible well rounded diet and added anti-oxidants such as Vit C, Vit E, and NAC (and don't forget to include 1000 IU of Vitamin D for us sun-starved Canadians). And try to keep the weight under control - too low gets really dangerous and too high results in shortness of breath even for those without COPD. Chris

Thank you for the interesting article. I was at a class today to learn how to read food labels to lower my cholesterol. That was an eye opener to find out how much hidden saturated fat is in our food.
