second visit

Went yesterday for second set of test,the first one was the ECHO.For those that are interested,it is to check the flow of blood thought the right side of the heart, the sound you hear is not the heart pumping its the flow of blood.
That what the Car do?told me,I did not have time(someone else wanted to use the machine) to ask why they would want to check that on me as far as I know I don't have a problem with my heart.

Second was the LUNG FUNCTION,there were three different test,the normal one in the phone booth breathing in and out then breathing out as long as you can.You do this three times then have a rest for a few minutes then do the test twice again with a rest of a few minutes in between.The next was outside the booth,with a monitor,that I could see (you know me)you have to breath in and out slowly then the pipe is close off, you have to breath in quickly and deeply.You have to do this three times, with rests between.This is to check how strong you lungs are.
Last was on the same machine,breathing in an out normally then breathing in deeply holding it 10 seconds then breathing out slowly as long as you can,three times with rests.I did not improve on this test.He said I had done well and showed me the gap between the lines,and told me that,if you divide it in two that would be one Liter,some people cant blow out the last Liter
plus the tailing off.
I asked if he knew how many were in the coil trial as that
was what I was hoped to get into it.He said I was his first but he asked a young lady who was giving some else test at the end of the room,she said she had, had four but she thinks there are eight all together and they were all pre-trial.
Then the guy took some blood from my ear that was requested by the doctor for tests also?,they already took blood for tests from my arm last month?.

Then I went for CT SCAN that was quick,after I asked the radiologist what happens now. Well I print them,yours are every 5mm slices starting from the top of your lungs down to the bottom,sometimes the doctors want 10mm.Then I take them apart and put them back again.
You are quite modest about the job you do that took up to seven years from the start,I said.
She said with a smile,when I put them back together again, I do look at them very carefully so I can make my report.
Thank you I said enjoy the rest of you day,you too she replied.

My next appointment is with the doctor on the 28/10/10

Zar, this is your second visit for evaluation for coil trials?
Thank you for sharing the testing with us. The Lung Function test is a full PFT isn't it? I may be confused, but the way it is written it seemed like it.

Have you ever seen the slices? It is pretty interesting to look at. My doctor showed me and explained every slice when I had mine done.

That appointment sounds far away.

Busy day, eh? So, do you find out whether you're accepted into the trial on your next appt. or is there more testing. Seems to me you said before you'd get your 'verdict'. My fingers (toes, hairs all over my body) are crossed for you.

Yes it was my second visit for trials but cant say its for coils yet,but keeping my finger X.
I am a bit that you did not know as I thought you read everything on the site ;D as some of the other guys here knew :)but hey not the end of the world is it.
As for the PTF being a full one, I haven't been in the phone booth (nick name) for 6 or 7 years and as far as I can remember it did not seem as long as that,at that time?.
Its the first time I have had a CT SCAN because they never really wanted to it,in all the time I have had copd I think on one hand how many times I had Xrays.
I think that was because of the epic movie when I had TB ;D.But you can be assured that I will ask to see them next time I go.It a wonder I dont look like Pinocchio .
The 28/10/10 dose seem a long way off,but maybe they want to get all the different case files together first ? and of course it is holidays?.
One woman who is trying to go for trials were I am,told me nothing is happening for her at the moment as both her specialists are on holiday.Birds of a feather flock together.

Could have gave you a better blow by blow account,like say as long as a toilet roll,but not sure how many of you are like Jackie,cant wait to get between the sheets ;D.I go to bed between 11 and 12 and up at 8,and we are older than you this side of the pond(time lapse).

1)Where have you been btw? E'thing O.K.?
I have two grandsons,1 from each of my sons, If you give or do something for the youngest he always say thank you as he appreciates it,and is always prepared to help anyone out.
The older 1 finds it a job to say thank you as he believes that he will be a millionaire one day and expects everything should "just"come his way
We were moving some furniture one day,and even though some of it was his.He said he had to go to football practice,when he came back with no football kit,of course he did not go for practice and never intended to.He said it had been canceled ? and him and the girlfriend had gone for a walk with her dog.
Nothing in it for "him "to help why get his hands dirty?.
He is in SA on holiday at the moment I did not know until the day he was leaving,what time he had to go to the airport and still dont know if he got to SA and never mind what time he is coming back but what day.
Something has got up their noses over there,maybe its because my youngest son did not take him to the airport this time
But if you do quite a bit for someone,and when you have a heart attack and that person dosen,t come to see you at home (one block away)never mind in hospital.
When you invite them to BBQs they make a excuses,and when they go to collage they cross the road when they get to your house and will only go to your house when they know for sure you wont be there,so they can ask your easy going son to fix their computer,cell phone,or what ever.I too would be waiting outside with the engine running to take them to the airport?.
He comes back in about 2 weeks,the last time a volcano erupted over here it was just ash.This old volcano will belch out flames. sorry for the rant.

2)I have had a virus for about 10 day only went to see doctor after going for test,she asked me what was wrong.I said if I did not know you can get malaria in the UK,I would say it was that but very,very mild.She laughed and said,No you have a virus
Ok I said dizziness,yellow tong ,hot cold ,no appetite whites of eyes yellow,dry mouth want to vomit most of the time and very thirsty all the time and of course want to just sleep.where is your med books.I have had malaria, we both laughed.
3)Two people told me taking blood from the ear could be for red cell count and to see if you need ambulance O2,or diabetes.
When I fill a bit better I will look it up,this enough for anybody in one day ;D

Sorry about the grandson. Have one of those types myself, only is my brother. Only time you hear from him is if he wants something. If you call him, he answers the phone "what do you want?" We're not all like him. That's just how he thinks. He's actually a little old to be in the 'me' generation, but he fits right into it.

Hope you are feeling better soon. That's weird about the tongue color. My husband had some nasty bug a month or so ago and his tongue changed, too. Never saw that happen b/4. He's better now, but took a good couple of weeks to get there.

Thanks for such detailed replies. Yep I do try to read as much as possible, but hey, sometimes I just have days pass by. Anyway, my full PFT takes at least 45 minutes at least to an hour other times. I never had a CT Scan until I went to Penn Lung Center...

I sure do hope that the time goes quickly. I just hope that there is something that can be done for you. Best of luck for good health til then.
