www.soonews.ca:80/viewarticle.php?id=14857A long article you may wish to click (copy & paste) on and read it all Time For A COPD Strategy Currently in Canada, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – or COPD approximately 1.5 million Canadians. COPD is on the rise, particularly in women, and is affecting people at a much younger age than in years previous. Today people as young as 40 are being diagnosed with the disease. As the name suggests, COPD is a disease that causes the airways of the lungs to be inflamed and become obstructed or blocked. COPD includes two major breathing diseases: chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Smoking is the major cause of COPD, with an estimated 15 to 20 per cent of smokers developing the disease. According to the 2005 Canadian Community Health Survey, more than one in five (22% - 23%) of men aged 20 – 54 years reported smoking daily; women were slightly lower at 17 – 20 per cent.

Hi Larry, I think you will find that this www.on.lung.ca/Get-Involved/Take-Action/index.php is more on the same program. It appears to be very similar to, and maybe tied into, the "Lung Health Framework" that the Canadian Lung Association is working on in conjunction with the Public Health Agency of Canada. This is something that Jackie and I have had a little input into, and we are both hoping will eventually develop into a good and useful program across the country. At this stage it is hard to see whether it will work, but we surely do need one, and this does have potential! Chris
