Hi Nancy; I see this come up a lot in articles. There have been various reasons mentioned. Size of lungs, women getting into work force more, etc.
I don't think that will be easy to figure out until they also figure out why so few smokers get COPD and the others don't. There again, a lot of speculation such as smaller lungs, premature babies, asthma, bronchitis as kid, etc.
I like to read when they have some definite statements but don't think they have come close yet IMHO only. I think some of us with COPD get in groups knocking this stuff around and come up with about as good as their million dollar studies.
