WAR CAKE
2 Cups Brown Sugar, 3/4 cup shortening, 2 cups Water, 1 lb. seeded raisins. Put in sauce pan and bring to boil. Boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.
Sift together dry ingredients: 3 cups flour, 1 tsp. nutmeg, 2 tsp. soda, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. salt and 1 tsp. cloves.
Mix together with the cooked mixture. Bake 1 hour in slow oven, 300*F.
I double this recipe and add a large container of mixed fruit from Costco. I make 3 loaf pans. It make a really nice fruitcake. It was one my grandmother use to make.
