I just heard about this site through another one . COPD COndensed. I get their digest versions several time s/week and find them some what helpful. I would perfer to hear from other Canadians though as so much of their info has to do with their health system and how to access funds. I am 58 yrs old and was told of my COPD in 2003. To truthful, I knew I had it - I just wanted to quit smoking before being told for sure.

Thanks for all the relies. Can anyone out there help me with finding a product i have been advised to buy. it is a finger oximeter. An exercise team I just joined on line - to encourage one to work out each day by reporting to the group - the team captain suggested getting one to help me keep track of my O2 saturations as I work on the TM. I had questioned how one could know when they were doing too much or too little to be of any use. She said if I felt I might be quitting before I really needed to , it might be simple fear. This oximeter would re assure me and allow me to work harder to strengthen my muscles around the lungs without doing any harm. It seems they are pretty cheap and easily gotten in the States. Here the best I found was like $600.00 compared to their 150 - $200.00. Any ideas for Canadian sites where I could get one at a reasonable price? Do others use and find it helpful?

Finger oximeters: The gold standard amongst COPDers is the Nonin Onyx 9500. I bought mine from portablenebs about four years ago and have never regretted it. Their web site is www.portablenebs.com/tripleoximeter.htm and I just checked this out. Their price for the Onyx is US$ 239.95. However while checking this out I saw that they are also selling the MEDChoice oximeter for the price of only us$ 65 - they speak pretty highly of it and the price is so good that I am tempted to get one as a 'loaner' for the people in my local support group. ;D I noticed that they ship by UPS and I have found that UPS shipments to Canada are passed through a "customs broker" at the border, and this can result in a large unexpected charge even when no duty is payable, so I try to get any shipments like this sent by the US post office and not UPS, even if it means I have to pay extra postage. I prefer to buy at home in Canada if I can, but I am NEVER prepared to spend three times as much just to be 'patriotic'
