Thank you for the warm welcome. I am so happy to be here. I will tell a little about myself and why I need something like this. I was told about 1 year ago I have copd. Well, I dont have any support or caregivers, My family seems to think I should be able to do what I always done and they will not heslp me at all. Mind U, they do have thier own problems and things, but I feel so alone with no help. My husband can be a great help one day with certain things but then the next he says why cant U get better. I keep telling him if I could I would. I really need some support, as I have been very sick this year, I also got so weak from being down so long. I didnt realise what I could do to make things better until for myself until I did some searching online. But with being so weak I will have to start slow. I will do it. I just need some friends who understand and know what it is like not being able to breth and then being scared cuz you cant and now realising I was making things worse. I need help with a diet as

I feel blessed to have found somewhere I can share this and blessed that you all understand,Thx, Caperchic53(Joanne) It is so hard for families to understand what is going on when you have Copd..we do have to educate them and make them aware we do not have the lung capacity to do things the way we used to...it is really equivalent to them plugging their nose's and trying to breathe through a straw and walk up a flight of stairs...with this disease you can either become overweight and for some of us it is the reverse, underweight...the best thing you can start with is to get a good pulmo/respiratory Dr....find out from him what medications you should be taking and if you can start a stretching and exercise program....we have some stretches and exercises that are posted in Day by Day at the Gym but only with Dr.s permission...please feel free to ask any questions and we will try and help you....Ellen/CoCojax

Caperchic53 Welcome and glad you joined. It is hard to get family to understand. I didn't tell my family for quite some time and my I continued to take care of my parents with their doc and chemo. After my dad died, I just needed help and finally let it out. They still don't understand. But, sooner or later, they will see. Sometimes family just has a hard time seeing the strong member get sick and the reality hasnt set in.
Explore the gym and question and info. there is alot there to help

Right now I am going to get up and build up my strength get on diet and I am going to invest in some excerise bands and so walking. We are happy to have you join us. As the others said, jump in and have a look around. Ask questions and someone will help you. I too was over weight but have taken it off and kept it off by living the Atkins life style. You also need to move that body, even if it's just a little. Start walking a little and keep on going. Even if it's only for a few minutes. Every little bit helps. Grab a couple of cans from the pantry and use them to do a few, gentle arm exercises. Just start. It will get easier.
