Welcome jcindy! Please feel free to jump in anywhere anytime on any topic. You'll find the water warm. Some folks check in daily at the Fence- it's open all the time... (come pop in and have a coffee with us), or If there's a general interest item or COPD related issue you want to comment on, share or ask questions, by all means ask away. Or start a thread on a topic of interest or concern to you. Whatever YOU are comfortable with. Don't worry about posting in the wrong area or anything; that's why we have great moderators who can move things or copy etc. There's a fair bit of information here and folks are pretty friendly and quite diversified when it comes to COPD; if they don't know something they'll point you in the right direction at the very least.I guarantee you'll be made to feel at home right away! If you've not yet joined our parent organization/ COPD Canada Patient Network, www.copdcanada.ca/sign_up.htm Please consider it. It's open to e'one internationally and it's Free. Membership has it's benefits! There's a lot we can learn and share together ... I hope in time you'll think of us here as a 2nd family. So; make yourself at home and get comfy! My name's Jackie, aka Blossom. I look forward to getting to know you!

Hey thanks to all........ My friends call me JC and I am from Indianapolis, IN.( I smoked for 40 years but have since quit) I was diagnosed via x-ray during a routine physical. My PCP(Primary Care Physician) was more concerned about my Blood Pressure than COPD. So I didn't ask a lot of questions. I went home and did some searching and then started to panic. Felt I was having trouble breathing so went back to PCP and was put on Advair 100/50. I found this forum and realized I was not' going to die tomorrow. I stopped using the Advair and haven't had any problems since.(about 3 weeks) But I do have some questions. 1. I'm not sure I know what SOB(Short of Breath) means in relation to this disease. I huff and puff when I climb stairs if its more than 15 steps. In addition, there are times I inhale and it feels like it does not go through my whole body. I may have whole day of this but it has only happened a couple of times. Are both of these situations called SOB and a condition of this disease. The second one is kinda scary. 2. I stopped using Advair because I did not want to be put on steroids until I really need it. But I have read since that if you start a maintenance drug early it will help to slow down the process..... so not sure what to do. 3. I feel that I must have a mild case but since it was caught on x-ray I wonder now. I always thought that if something showed on x-ray it was pretty far along. Is this true with COPD
Yes I know that I need a complete pulmo workup to get all the answers but since my symptoms seem to be mild thought I could wait. Insurance is an issue and don't want to spend the money now. Financially it would be better for me in November. Any thoughts or concerns on waiting.
Thanks for listening....JC
