. Of all the great things that Phil did, what Phil shared and what Phil taught us, I will always remember one thing. The item is.... "I never got to say goodbye"..... To me, this is something that I will always remember about Phil. The man who left us way too early in life...
Good bye buddy. And Thank You again...

There shall be no more tears only rejoicing for you my friend, as I know you now breathe easy.... This reminds of something Phil would say Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is how I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then don't remember me at all.
This smile is for you Phil Arlene

O.K.....this will be my last "post" re: our good byes to Phil. You're wanting to know about the funeral.... It was a Catholic funeral mass ..... extremely well attended. Phil's family held up "great" although there were a few emotional times I assure you. Golly I was proud of them though. Shawna's young son (Phil's grandson) ; let's just say he brought tears to my eyes; but even he was a CHAMPION. Comes from good stock. Oh heck; they all did and are; CHAMPIONS. I cried a lot during the service; and I'm not even biological family. The homily was wonderful. One of the best I've heard. Everyone knew Phil had Emphysema at the funeral; including the priest who talked about it ..... No one shyed away from it. Pat made sure I got a laminated book mark they had done up for family and a few friends....(it was a picture of Phil from 7 years ago, with a lovely piece written by Young Phillip on one side and the Obituary on the other) I promised Shawna when she asked....that yes we'll keep things going..... I didn't stay too long at the reception and I thank Heavens that my hubby was with me and driving. He's drained as well right now (he's currently napping as I type) It's time folks; time to move forward..... We have work to do; ALL of us. We need to share our knowledge and compassion, We have to seek out knowledge and information; We have to make people aware of COPD and not afraid to say the words....."I have COPD";We have to talk about it: We have to bring it to the forefront....our numbers are staggering. Before I established my....yours....mine...ours... website COPD Canada ( www.copdcanada.ca )in November this past year; Phil and I had several discussions. I asked him to contribute. He did....hands down....I also asked a few others to write a piece to the newcomers of this disease....they did....no question. He/ they.....spoke up. And that's what we need to do. Please honor him and EACH of us by doing just that. He wasn't afraid to "say the words" and he "wasn't embarased." Nor am I and nor should any of you. We; ALL COPDer's are family; regardless of our stage of disease or where we live and what I have learned this past week about the closeness & understanding etc about the people with this disease has been beyond description..... The candle will STAY lit by us and if/when one of us falls.....another will keep it going. Just like the Olympic Torch..... We're all in this together friends; so; BREATHE DAMMIT! (((((((Hugs ))))))) to Phil; and ALLof you Everywhere Jackie

Thank you my friend, for being a friend, and for all of yourself that you shared. I believe now you can see that your reach was far beyond what you could have imagined. It won't be the same for sure. I will miss you being around. Goodbye Phil, and God be with you. MaryAZ
