Chris's Surgery and Updates

Today's the day. I just got a call from Gwen, they've taken Chris in for his surgery and I noticed Sarah's twin

was headed over. It'll be noon or so before they're finsihed. Gwen will meet up with him (Chris) in ICU.

And; as I get info/updates I will certainly pass them along.

Please remember they're on Pacfic time....

I'm happy to report;
I just got an e from Helen.....

Mom (Gwen) has asked me to send out an email to all of you letting you know that Dad (Chris) has made it through the surgery and the surgeon says he is happy with the way it went. She hasn't had a chance to see him yet and there is no more news at this time. I will send out more emails for her with any updates on his condition.

O.K...... we're over the major hurtle .... now we go through recovery which can be as challenging if not more so (in my personal opinion) But.... he did it!

I received this last night after I went to bed.... (it would have been 6:45 pm Pacific time)


"Hi all,

Dad/Chris had a bit of a rough stretch for a few hours when they took him off the ventilator late this afternoon, but it sounds like they have things largely sorted out now and that means he's past 2 of the big hurdles. Also, I'm told the surgeon believes he got everything and sees no signs of any involvement of the lymph nodes!

Well; things are surely sounding great thus far. I know there was a concern beforehand re: getting him off the vent, but it sounds like it was successful!

Hi Folks,
Just dropping in real fast before I take a shower and head back to the hospital. Chris is still holding his own well. Lot of pain which they are trying to get under control but overall they are very pleased with his progress. I have lost count of all the different tubes sprouted all over, bit of a "spaceman look"!! Anyway, not totally out of the woods yet as I am told day 4,5 & 6 can present problems.
My family have been great chauffeuring me to and from the hospital, bringing me food and coffee or just sitting with me for company. I am so very fortunate that way. Slept on the couch in waiting room last night. Best sleep \I have had in weeks!!
Off to the shower now [for everyone's sake,] then back to my honey.

I received a note from Gwen last night well after my bedtime, as follows....

"Hi Jackie,
Too late to call you tonight and \i am soooo tired I am going to bed!!
Chris was doing really well today and they got him up, standing and took three steps!! Major progress and I think they are planning to transfer him to a regular ward tomorrow.

I trust ICU here 100% so am going to have one night of peaceful sleep!!
