Hi everyone, thanks for having me at this forum. I needed a place to go and learn all about COPD as possible. I was told by my doctor last Jan that I have COPD. I didn't know what to think, I'm 61 and smoked most of my life. It really didn't hit me what my body was going through until this last two weeks. The grasping for breath hit again like a ton of bricks. My doctor put me back on another batch of predisone and a step down plan after that. I take Spirvia and Advair daily. I took care of my mother-in-law the last couple years of her life. She had Idiopathic pulminary fibroises and I prayed I would not go like that, but did I quit smoking NO! Just after I got sick and in March I quit smoking. This weekend was bad from anxiety, just thinking about it. It is going to take some time to adjust, but this I must do. From the posts I have read, I think everyone here is courages and fighters and that is what I want to be to. I guess I'm just lost at the moment, but thank you for having me.

Thanks Gwen, I just feel so inadequate and don't know what to say, heck, I don't even know exactly how I feel yet, except I will be darned! I'm not going down with out a battle. I have to much to live for. I guess I'm still going through the shock stage. I really need to get a grasp and read all I can on this. I guess I'm scared just like everyone else who first finds out they have COPD. Thanks you and God Bless you Gwen!

Hi Stormygal....
I just saw your post.
First and fremost welcome to one of the most "diversified" COPD group of folks. Every stage of the disease, some with other diseases, conditions problems, some not.... different countries.... some who've had transplants, others who've had lung volume reduction surgery or other surgeries... a whole soup pot!
But; we all have a common bond. And; like Gwen said we support and we'll help as best we can and we believe and advocate "living with".
We educate and we get educated. Sometimes simply by sharing our own personal "current" info.
All you need to do is share. What may not be applicable today for your situation, might be tomorrow. And vice versa.
Anyway dear.... just jump right in on any topic or subject or ask questions... whatever you're comfortable with. Don't worry about a post in the wrong area... the admins or mods will move it for you.
I hope in time you feel like you've "come home." We all understand I assure you!
My name is Jackie; aka Blossom and I look forward to learning more about you!

Stormygal! It's nice to meet you and hope you find yourself coming here often. Like Blossom and Gwen have said, we do our best to educate and inform, but we also learn so much from others going through the same thing. If you've checked out the whole forum, then you've seen the one place that's called "The Fence", that's where we meet and greet each other each day, if able, and check to make sure everyone's ok. We also share what's going on with ourselves and this helps us learn how to LIVE with COPD. It's also fun to see what's going on with everyone, and we eventually become part of the Family. I would love to see you there and hope that you feel comfortable soon to join us at the Fence. My name is Sue and I was diagnosed in 2006. I thought I only had a year to live and was terrified, but as you can see, I'm still hanging around and doing pretty darn good if I do say so myself. See you again! Sue
