I'm still in a tad bit of shock/surprise. Priscilla called about an hour ago... Heck; it was Friday that Neil called me to explain his joke and he sounded well; like "Neil". But; we also know how things can change for e'one. Deetsk (Neil) is in the hospital. As of Sunday/Monday early am; that's when Priscilla called an ambulance. He'd been throwing up blood and not doing well (clammy etc). They "believe" he has pneumonia; may have aspirated some blood. They "think" the bleeding is coming from his stomach; "potentially" from the ibuprofen that he takes. (When I say "they"; it's the medical folks) He's now had a couple of tranfusions. Also; his potassium levels are low (I'm sure that's being addressed) and he's on anti's. He's also been transferred back from Glace Bay to New Waterford where they live. (These are the kind of small towns/cities that oft times have to close their facilities due to lack of beds or no Dr.s to work the ER's) A year ago (11 mos) ; you may recall, he was hospitalized. Ultimately sent home; palliative care. Though the VON is still coming in a couple times a week, he was released from palliative several months ago. He'd been doing pretty good! These are "salt of the earth"; down home kinda folks. And; I've been priviliged to meet them and be invited into their home. They're good people and right now they could use our love, support and prayers please.  And..... I'm sending Sarah over to sit with you both and keep you company....  |

Prayers and good thoughts sent for Deetsk and Priscilla. I hope they are able to get the bleeding under control quickly and he'll be on the road to recovery once again. My mom ended up with an ulcer from taking ibuprofen without eating first. Took a while, but she did heal. I am confident Deetsk will too.

I spoke with Priscilla last night before bed.... she tells me (as of last night) Neil is showing signs of "slight" improvement. They've adjusted some of his meds and also added some morphine to the regime. This is good IMO.
(Remember; opiods are not just for end of life care for COPDer's anymore. I added this point becasue of some who aren't aware of the use of it for COPD in the severe categories. )
Anyway; if I hear anything today, I'll pass it along.

Thanks for informing and updating, Jackie.
Such sad news and I am hoping he continues to improve. I hope the morphine helps with the breathing, but what has happened does sound painful.
Sending healing thoughts out to him and Priscilla.
