Tonight my brother is being admitted to the hospital. He is apparently incoherent, hallucinating and talking to people who arent' there, and not sleeping. My niece said he hadn't slept for 5 nights and every time he would drift off he would have what looked like seizures. But she never call the dr til yesterday. Dumb. From what I could gather, if it's even right, he took himself off Lorazapam and this is what's causing the no sleep, etc,,, like withdrawal. He'd told me last week he'd done it but I'd assumed he'd done it under dr's advice and was weaning off it. Not the case, I'm afraid. You can't just stop taking it, especially the high doses he was on. Plus he's just been put on Oxycodone and I've taken that and it really makes you loopy. But he told me he was only taking that at night now because of the side effects. When we saw him for lunch on Mon. I noticed his eyes were rolling back every so often and recognized the signs of the Oxy's...but maybe it was this Lorazapam thing starting. I don't know, just know it's scary and I can't be there for him and the rest of the family.
Please pray for him and the dr's that they can get this figured out. It would be so nice if it was 'only' the meds causing this and not something worse. Thank you every one. I'm scared.

Hi sue, this sounds scary. I will keep him in my prayers. And I hope the medical people can find the cause of the problem and get him straighten out.
If he did stop the Lorazapam without tapering off. It could cause all of his symptoms. Lets hope that is all it is.
Take Care & God Bless.

my sister called this morning at 7:30..my brother had called her and said he wanted to go home. She's hoping she convinced him to stay but knowing how he is I'll bet he doesn't. Hope the dr can talk some sense into him. So add that to your prayers, please. Thanks for all your support, everyone . You are family to me.

Boy is my bro really messed up. My sister went to see him after school and he's still hallucinating and acting incoherent. He was pretending he had a spoon and some food and was acting like he was eating. Then he put his head back and went to sleep for a minute. They ran some test today that has an E in it, but she didn't know if it was an Echo or EKG or EEG. Lots of blood work too. Also doing a sleep apnea test tonight. The only meds they've given him is a pill to help him sleep. At least he's still there. There's no way I would think they'd let him out in his condition. The nurse told my sister the dr said he might have had a stroke, but she didn't think he had had one. I think it's probably just the withdrawal from all his meds. So many pain meds, morphine, oxycodone, etc.. Believe it or not, and I am really upset about it, the dr who prescribed all this crap knows he's a 'former' drug addict. Not so former, right? The dr has him on so much crap. I find it really irresponsible.
Oh well, thanks for the prayers and don't stop now. We really need a healing of the body and spirit and soul here.

Sue it does not change anything, It's good they are doing all the tests. It is good they are keeping him in hospital, it may take a little time to get him straitened out but i believe they will. Any way he is the in the best place for him right for now to get healed.

At least they are testing. I'm assuming they know he stopped all the painkillers?

Sue, sending a prayer for both you and your brother, I know how hard this must be on you, and I pray that it is 'only' the effects of the meds that have caused his problems and heaven knows that is so easily the answer. Big hugs to you.
