I am sure that Barry aka Bear can use a lot of prayers right now. So can his wife Carol as this will be a long road. I was recipient of a multiple email sent out by Carol about Barry. Since no one has yet posted I will post. I wouldn’t post the complete email without having an okay and I know Carol is now busy or getting much needed rest. Most of the wording below is from the email and I changed a few things to keep it in context. Barry took a fall today while attempting to fill the birdfeeders and he is in the hospital in Oshawa with a massive headache, 100 staples and 20 stitches, maybe more.. .Carol was told that people who saw it stated he seemed to trip, slip, fall and eventually end up bashing his head into the railing. Could have been worse. 911 was called, pressure was applied by one of our neighbors, until EMS arrived. . . . in a trauma room being assessed, hooked to various devices to monitor him, and the plastic surgeon had been called. . .He had birdseed everywhere, plus dirt all mixed with copious amounts of blood. If you're feeling queasy right now, close your eyes and skip over the next part. Attending Attending nurse said to the doctor "he scalped himself" and that's exactly what he did! . . .all vital signs are stable and he will be monitored in hospital for a few days at least. I will be praying for both Barry and Carol.

Thanks for posting this Mary; I was just talking with Bear y'day morning. I was shocked..... Barry; to help you through this you should have your own private nurse to stay with your 24 hours a day. So; being the kind woman that I am I'm sending Elivira over.... I guess no one told you that you couldn't fly..... Seriously though Bear, I've said a prayer and will say a few more . Get well soon please!

Oh poor Barry. OUCH!!! Those scalp wounds bleed like holy hell. Hopefully, if he didn't sustain a Fx. , he should heal well and quickly. Poor Carol, it must have frightened her half to death. Get well quick, my friend. There are benefits to having a hard head.

...Just got an e from Ellen (CoCojax); she spoke with Carol (Bear's wife this afternoon; they live in the same relative area)
In it she said...."Barry is still in hospital, blood pressure is still low, no sounds in his lower lungs so they are going to try and get him up but because of his blood pressure..."
Please continue to keep him in your thoughts/prayers....

I just got home, then called again for Bear...spoke with Carol. They'll know more once he sees the plastic surgeon which they were waiting on. I would offer up Bear's number to anyone in a PM (private message) however; I got the impression Carol may not like for him to have any calls. If/when I hear more, I'll let you know.

Good Morning all members of this site. Thank you all for your prayerful thoughts. I know Barry will be home soon and thank you all personally. Time to take a few moments to bring you up to date. Thanks to MaryAz for sending me the initial link. I did read the initial posts and relayed the messages to my Sweetie. He did NOT trip over his shoelace as was the original suggestion........it's impossible! I recreated the situation with his shoes, laces aren't long enough for him to stand on while hanging the feeder. Instead, a runner root from the pine trees was discovered, actually there were many of these which had been exposed after severe rainfalls. The offender and others have since been removed. Barry is still in hospital, not sure when he'll be discharged, as we are waiting for the plastic surgeon to "reappear". One nurse thought he might be on holidays this week, I hope not. The head wound is still the concern, everything else is back to normal. He's up walking the halls, even got to leave the floor yesterday for a short while but in a wheelchair. Phone calls are not appreciated. I can not even call him........I have to wait for him to call from the Common room. Even at the best of times Barry finds telephone calls difficult, so I hope you understand that it is Barry's request to not have the phone connected. I spend several hours a day at the hospital and have been active in his care, assisting with dressing the wound, as well as personal care when he wasn't able. I've just received a call from the Plastics office this minute. The doctor is on vacation so I guess Barry won't be coming home for a bit, unless they discharge him with Homecare nursing visits. Once again thanks for all your good wishes, we really appreciate them. I'm going to try to include a picture that will be upsetting to some. If it doesn't work, then I will send it through to MaryAz if she wants to post it. Barry has given me permission to do this. img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hospitalpicturesaug0800eg5.jpgimg513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=hospitalpicturesaug0800gz4.jpgThis website is new to me so I don't know if the picture will show or not. In case it doesn't, I'll get in touch with Mary. Have a good day! Carol

Poor Barry, That is a nasty wound, but I have never seen staples used to close a laceration on the face. Am I seeing this right? Seems to me that they should have called the Plastic surgeon initially do do the closure. I worked for years with a group of plastic surgeons, so I have experience with this. It's an outrage that Barry's plastic surgeon doesn't have another plastic surgeon to cover him while he is on vacation.Wow!! Unbelievable. Poor guy probably wants to get home.
