Thanks Wendy. I plan on going back this week or beginning of next week. Dr. did agree with me that I will need a specialist if ventolin didn't work for me. deb-I did look up bricanyl and when I saw a pic of it I realized that 9 years ago a dr. at a walk-in clinic gave it to me before I went to Hawaii as I had bronchitis at the time. So I figure that I have been living with this for at least 10 years now & had not a clue and no dr picked up on it until I was so terribly sick last summer.

thanks everyone I really appreciate the input- I will look into bricanyl Deborah. My Dr. gave me Atrovent for the rescue inhaler so I don't think he really knows much about COPD & he has said so. I think that I will ask for a sepcialist now as even what I read online on other sites doesn't seem that the treatment Iv've been given fits the situation. My dr. actually never gave me anything for a maintenance inhaler so I am not sure what is really going on in his head but I know what is going on for me. Once again thanks for all the input.

I am curious to know if anyone else has had problems with atrovent or ventolin? I found that the atrovent works but that it makes my chest burn and gives me a very sore throat and leaves me hoarse. I went back to dr. and he gave me ventolin to try in the discus form as he thought the inhaler drugs that deliver the meds were the culprit. I can inhale the ventoline fine but it doesn't work as well and leaves me very jittery and both of them give me headaches. Anyone else had these problems? I am scheduled for resp therapy here in New Westminster for either April (for sure May they said) so I don't really have anyone to discuss this with. Was wondering if a spacer would help? I will go back to my dr. next week but would like to have some solution in mind before I return to him. Thanks

I agree Dave-Yellow Dock is very good for iron and many things other than skin rashes too. It works as a laxative and for baterical infections just to mention a few uses. I sometimes put it in my salad when I can find it. Thanks for sharing that.

Thanks you for pointing out David that medical cannabis is very different from what hippies smoked back in the day. I have used medical cannabis for chemo recovery (the THC was removed; that was given to me at the time in pill form when I lived in the US) and now for chronic neck pain. i am seeing my MD today for referal to a proper COPD clinic here in Vancouver and to see what I can work out with the new laws that prohibit me from growning my own now. i would never take anything without checking with my MD first.

I also take it and I have taken it for years. It will take a while for you to notice a big change but you will notice it. If you are taking Rampril you will definitely get pain in the legs and this will help. My husband uses it for that. Good for you to have a Doctor that acknowledges natural over the counter remedies. I also get mine from Swanson's or if I see it on sale in Costco I will pick it up. Good luck!

That was a awesome article. I hope they can continue and get funded and not get suppressed like so many things that actually work; if drug companies can't profit they get seem to get swept away under the carpet.

Thank you David for posting this. I have been growing my own and eating or drinking my cannabis in teas. I firmly believe that this might be why my COPD has not ravaged my lungs as I believe that I have been living with this condition for the last 10 years I just wasn't diagnosed correctly at the time. I haven't had the time to watch this whole video (only 1/2) but it looks promising. Here in BC I will be losing my license to grow my own in April and find that very upsetting as I will not know who is growing my plants nor how the oil or tea will be processed. Has anyone else out there been using cannabis in some form and found it helpful? I actually starting using it form my chronic neck pain and found it made a big difference to my quality in life.

I have heard of NAC but not tried it. My sister suggested it to me especially if my CT scan confirms cancer as I hear that it will protect healthy cells. Also like to thank you for the clarification on posting. I have no vested interest in any supplement company; just would like to know what others have tried. I know that some things work for some and not for others. This seems a good forum for honest discussions.

I am new here and didn't think that we were allowed to. It is Repiractin that I take before I exercise and like it better than taking my inhaler as either way I am supposed to take something that works 20-30 minutes before exercise. I would never try to replace natural supplements for my RX meds ever! but if I can cut down on the usage by using something natural I will. Thanks for your reply.

Has anyone added any natural supplements like a liquid elixir that aids in breathing? There are many things out there that I have been reading about that do not clash with meds and I would like to know if anyone has talked with their dr. and tired it. I have found one whose name I won't mention that I have been using instead of my rescue inhaler when I exercise. I found that my inhaler burns my lungs and makes my throat really sore. I will speak to my dr. about it when I go see him as I am newly diagnosed and feel that Atrovent is not for me and I am very happy to use something natural. I know that there is no cure but I don't want to get used to relying on my inhaler every time I want to swim or walk stairs.

Thanks everyone. I am at stage II and 59. I thought I was just getting really old very fast. I have started keeping a diary and exercising everyday. I can do one flight of stairs a day at this point and want to build up to the 23rd floor where I live; this is my goal and I am determined to do it. Mostly looking for healthy and alternative medical ways; diets etc. I do realize that I have to use my rescue inhaler before exercise and meds when I am really sick. Will meet again in the new year with my doctor to discuss questions etc. as I am still in shock. I am looking forward to a happier new year now that I know what is going on. Happy New Year everyone!
